Special Story - From a wreck to track.
Hello Track and Field Lovers. In this article, we are highlighting Arethea Roddy.
The week before her 14th birthday she had a great time with friends and her sisters.
Then right before her 14th birthday (June) she was out getting her nails done with a
friend at a local nail shop. Out of the blue a car came crashing through the
nail salon right through the wall of windows at Arethea. It flung her chair across the room.
Crashed into the salon employee and her friend. The car then proceeded to hit
Arethea again and push her chair into the wall. God had a hand on her. She was taken by
ambulance to the hospital to check on her injuries. Her leg was sore and full of glass.
After weeks of physical therapy she was released to try to run track again.
She qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics (end of July)
in the pentathlon, open high jump, and 4x800 relay. She brought home a medal! Then
came her high school cross country season. She was not able to do the type of base
training needed during the summer due to the accident.
She worked hard and had a successful season.
Entering with excitement into her Indoor season this year. As a freshman, she is trying
to navigate training schedules and extra curricular schedules.
She is an avid participant in FFA and her school theater program.
This brings us to her Texas AM indoor performance in the 800.
She received a lifetime PR and is ready to take on the next opportunities full force.
Texas AM HS Classic.

Texas Thunder Indoor Season
Wow!! Indoor is here and we are enjoying watching these athletes prepare for there season. The indoor season is a time for athletes to shake off the cobwebs and get back to competition.
What is indoor season?
In the south, most teams practice outside and compete indoor during December, January, and February,
More prestigious meets are held at the beginning of March. AAU and USATF nationals, NASAF, New Balance, and many more.
Experienced athletes understand the indoor season helps prepare them to reach PRs and break records during their out door season.
Looking forward to a great season.

We are so excited to introduce this young lady to the cross country high school world. She jumped in there with the top group with out hesitation and trusted her training with Coach Roddy. She lost her shoe after mile one but did not quit. Continuing to fight the entire time, finished at a 14:39!!! She beat her best time a minute and twenty seconds! Keep up the great work and dedication!!! Go kill your high school season!

Consistency is key
Our world is upside down and inside out right now. The one things these kids know, is that Coach Roddy and Texas Thunder is here for them. Offering 3 different practice times helps keep the groups small and helps everyone feel safe. This allows the athletes to continue to train, gain speed, and reach their goals. We cannot control the ever changing policies of today in dealing with the pandemic, but this team is doing a great job at keeping it ‘normal’ at the track.

Welcome to Summer 2019
Our Summer season is off and running. We are still taking sign ups. We are looking forward to an amazing season. We have a great schedule set up and can't wait to end the season at the National Junior Olympic Meet in North Carolina at the North Carolina A&T University. For all athletes who are aspiring to qualify for this meet should book and hold a hotel room as they are going quickly. Good luck to all athletes that are still running for their schools and have qualified to move on to the next level.
